Mayan Aztec Swimming Pool Medallion and Waterline

 

These hand painted glazed ceramic tile murals were created for a swimming pool on the ocean in the Caribbean. The theme is Mayan with the central pool floor medallion at 12 feet.

 

The owners liked the medallion artwork so well that they ordered a complete waterline design which encompassed the entire pool. A tremendous amount of research went into the waterline. We collected old lithograph drawings of numerous Mayan temples in the Yucatan area. Upon studying the drawings, we were able to compile original images just as they would have appeared on the temples of long ago. Many of the lithographs included color details, which gave us the ability to duplicate the colors that were used in the original artwork, just as it would have been on the temples.

 

If this pool were ordered today, the project would be hand cut glass mosaic. Agape Tile no longer produces hand painted murals.
